Fall Wedding Design: A Study in Texture, Tone, and Intentional Detail

Fall in Chicago offers a distinct design opportunity.

The shift in light, the richness of seasonal color, and the layering of texture create an atmosphere that feels intimate and grounded. Over the past season, we had the privilege of designing several distinct fall celebrations — each reflecting a unique aesthetic language while maintaining cohesion and refinement.

Below, we’re sharing a selection of these design approaches.

Jewel Tones: Layered Depth and Textile Contrast

For Kylie and Alex’s celebration, the design began with a foundation of plum — a color the bride felt deeply connected to. From there, we expanded into a jewel-toned palette, introducing navy as a grounding contrast during a design consultation.

Textile upgrades elevated the visual impact:
Soft, luminous ivory linens replaced standard polyester. Velvet napkins added depth. Crystal glassware and textured gold flatware introduced dimension.

Because the ceremony took place in a tented structure, draping became architectural rather than decorative. Crisscrossed fabric panels created a focal installation behind the couple, reducing the need for excessive floral volume while maintaining visual richness.

The result was layered, intentional, and immersive.

Tropical: Cultural Integration with Elevated Production

Angelica and Dennis envisioned a celebration that honored their Filipino heritage while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.

Rather than relying solely on tropical greenery, we layered lighting, linens, and curated decorative elements sourced directly from the Philippines. Bridesmaids carried fans adorned with foliage in place of traditional bouquets — a subtle but powerful stylistic shift.

The reception design incorporated vinyl album seating charts, custom details reflecting their shared love of music, and a live Filipino dance performance during dinner service.

This wedding was not theme-driven.

It was narrative-driven.

Classic Black & White: Timeless with Modern Precision

A black and white palette offers clarity and contrast — but its simplicity requires precision.

For this celebration, subtle pink accents and pearl details introduced softness without disrupting the structure of the design.

Handcrafted elements were carefully integrated without overwhelming the aesthetic. The result was timeless yet personal, elevated through material quality and intentional restraint.

Warm Autumn Tones: Texture as a Design Anchor

October in the Midwest invites warmth.

For Hannah and Robert’s celebration, we leaned into layered textures — foliage, berries, mixed metals, and warm-toned florals that echoed the surrounding season.

Rather than overwhelming the space, rustic and glam elements were balanced carefully to preserve cohesion. The interplay of materials created a romantic, immersive atmosphere that felt seasonally grounded yet refined.

Romantic & Retro: Intimate and Architectural

Set within an ivy-covered courtyard in downtown Chicago, this celebration embraced intimacy.

Mid-tone florals, vintage candelabras, layered greenery installations, and curated furniture rentals shaped the space intentionally. A champagne tower added visual interest without excess.

The scale was smaller — but the detail was uncompromising.

Fall design thrives in intimate environments where quality supersedes quantity.

Cool Tones: Narrative-Driven Atmosphere

Thor and Robert envisioned a setting inspired by adventure — warm, layered, and slightly whimsical.

We curated mismatched dinnerware, colored glassware, moss accents, and cool-toned florals in lavender and sage. Silver metals anchored the palette.

Custom artwork featuring their beloved cats added deeply personal detail, woven seamlessly into the overall aesthetic.

The environment felt immersive rather than decorative.
