Some celebrations feel layered in meaning from the very beginning.
Kate and Steven’s wedding was one of them.
From a proposal built around poetry and custom-labeled craft beer to a reception infused with literature, music, and spring florals, their celebration reflected a deeply personal narrative — executed with thoughtful restraint inside one of Chicago’s most architecturally striking venues.
After several venue tours, Thalia Hall became the clear choice.
Its historic concert-hall architecture and layered, multi-level layout provided a dramatic backdrop — which allowed us to approach the design with intentional simplicity.
Rather than compete with the space, we refined it.
White linens softened the industrial edges.
Layered lighting added warmth.
Florals introduced seasonal color without overwhelming the architecture.
When a venue carries presence, design should enhance — not overpower.
Kate envisioned spring florals in a palette of purples, pinks, and blues. Daffodils — her favorite flower — were woven throughout as a subtle personal signature.
Amber beer bottles served as floral vessels, nodding to the couple’s shared love of craft beer while introducing warm glass tones that complemented the venue’s historic interior.
Chalkboards throughout the space were embellished with hand-drawn Bluebonnets, honoring Kate’s Texas roots. A whimsical floral arrangement atop a stack of the couple’s own books added literary texture to the reception design.
Every element felt intentional — never thematic.

Given Thalia Hall’s origins as a concert venue, utilizing the stage for the ceremony felt both natural and dramatic.
A vintage rug grounded the altar design. LED candles layered the backdrop, while pillar candles lined the aisle below, creating a glow that balanced romance with architectural edge.
The ceremony itself was deeply personal — including a live duet performance of “I Will” by The Beatles sung by the couple’s brothers.
It was intimate, emotional, and beautifully framed by light.

Guests transitioned to a cocktail hour on the second floor, overlooking the main hall as the reception space was transformed below — a coordinated room flip executed by a team of seasoned professionals.
The layered guest flow was deliberate:
Kate and Steven’s sweetheart table was placed in an opera box opposite the DJ — a dramatic yet intimate vantage point.
The evening continued with thoughtful moments woven throughout:
The celebration balanced refinement with personality — structured yet joyful.

With a nearly two-year engagement, we had the opportunity to:
When layered correctly, these logistical decisions disappear into the guest experience — leaving only a celebration that feels effortless.
And that is always the goal.
